Udyam Registration is the process through which any Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise formally registers itself under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. Previously known as Udyog Aadhaar, it was revamped in July 2020 to make the entire flow completely digital and self-declared.
On approval you receive a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) and an e-certificate. Registration is 100% online, paperless and free of government charges — details are verified automatically through Aadhaar, PAN and GST databases. The certificate never expires, though you should keep your financial data updated each year so your classification stays accurate.
From 1 April 2025, the Government revised the MSME thresholds upward — raising investment limits by 2.5× and turnover limits by 2×. Classification uses a composite criterion: both investment in plant, machinery or equipment and annual turnover.
| Category | Investment in plant & machinery / equipment | Annual turnover |
|---|---|---|
| Micro Enterprise | Up to ₹2.5 crore | Up to ₹10 crore |
| Small Enterprise | Up to ₹25 crore | Up to ₹100 crore |
| Medium Enterprise | Up to ₹125 crore | Up to ₹500 crore |
The same limits apply equally to manufacturing and service enterprises. If a business crosses a threshold, it keeps its existing category until the end of the financial year, giving you room to grow without an abrupt loss of benefits.

No GSTIN? Informal micro-units such as street vendors and individual artisans can register through the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP), launched in 2023, via approved support agencies.
Udyam is paperless — nothing is uploaded — but you'll need these details ready for the self-declaration.
No physical documents are uploaded; everything is verified through Aadhaar, PAN and GST databases.
Open to any enterprise meeting the MSME thresholds — new or existing, manufacturing or services.
The certificate is free — but the benefits behind it are where the value sits. A few of the highest-impact wins:
Access to priority-sector lending, government credit-guarantee schemes, lower interest rates and faster approvals.
Eligibility for the 25% public procurement reservation for MSEs and easier onboarding to GeM and tenders.
Under Section 15 of the MSMED Act, buyers must pay within 45 days; otherwise interest accrues and you can take the claim to the MSE Facilitation Council.
Access to a wide range of central and state subsidies, concessions and support schemes designed for MSMEs.
Simpler, more consistent definitions across manufacturing and services reduce paperwork and friction.
A government-issued MSME identity strengthens your standing with banks, buyers and partners.
Your Udyam record should always reflect your real numbers. We keep it current across its full lifecycle.
The certificate never expires, but you must update your investment and turnover figures each year so your classification stays accurate. Outdated data can affect the benefits you're entitled to.
Still on the old Udyog Aadhaar (UAM)? We migrate you to Udyam through the same portal. We also correct details on an existing certificate — name, address, activity or contact information.
A quick walkthrough of what Udyam is, the revised MSME classification limits, who qualifies, and the benefits behind the certificate — so you know exactly where your business fits.
