Why design registration is worth it, what the ₹4,999 plan covers, and the full disclaimer — all in one place below.
Why it's worth it. Your product's look is often the very thing customers recognise and choose — and the first thing rivals imitate. A registered design gives you the exclusive legal right to that appearance, so a copycat product can be stopped through an action for piracy of design. It turns your aesthetic into a protectable, licensable, sellable asset that adds real value to your business and your brand.
About the service. NoLegalPaisa's online design registration takes your product from concept to protected asset. We begin with a novelty/prior-art search, advise on the correct class under the Locarno classification, prepare the design representations (views), and draft and file your Form-1 application with the Design Office (under the CGPDTM). We then track the application through examination and registration, keeping you updated until your Certificate of Registration is granted.
What's included in ₹4,999. The plan covers the novelty search, class advisory, preparation of representations, drafting and filing of one design application in one class, authorisation documents and real-time status tracking up to registration. Government filing fees and any objection responses or hearings are charged separately, as set out below.
Additional charges. Government objections, examination reports, hearings and additional responses are charged separately. Objection / Examination Response: ₹1,999 per objection. Hearing Representation: ₹5,999 for the hearing.
Professional fee & government fees. The ₹4,999-onwards price is our professional/service fee for a single-design, single-class application and is exclusive of applicable taxes (GST). Government filing fees are payable separately, at actuals, and vary by applicant type — typically lowest for a natural person, with concessional fees for startups and small entities (with valid certificate) and standard fees for others, per design per class. A separate application is required for each design and each class.
What can be registered. A design registration protects the ornamental or aesthetic appearance of an article — its shape, configuration, pattern, ornament or composition of lines and colours, judged solely by the eye. It does not protect how an article functions or works (that is the domain of patents), its mode or principle of construction, a brand name or logo (trademark), or artistic works such as paintings (copyright). The design must be new and original and must not have been published or made available to the public anywhere before filing.
No guaranteed outcome & timelines. We prepare and file applications diligently, but acceptance, objections, processing and timelines are determined by the Design Office and are outside our control; registration cannot be guaranteed (for example, a design may be refused for lack of novelty). Accurate information, drawings/representations and supporting documents are to be provided by you.
Term. A registered design is protected for 10 years from the date of registration, extendable by a further 5 years (15 years total) on timely renewal.

A short walkthrough of the full journey — search, drawings, filing, examination and registration.
It protects the visual appearance of a product — its shape, configuration, pattern, ornament or composition of lines and colours, as judged by the eye. It protects how a product looks, not how it works or is made.
Functional features, the mode or principle of construction, brand names or logos (these are trademarks), artistic works like paintings (copyright), and any design that has already been published or disclosed to the public. The design must be new and original.
A registered design is protected for 10 years from the date of registration, extendable by a further 5 years on timely renewal — up to 15 years in total.
A design protects appearance, a patent protects a functional invention, a trademark protects your brand identity (name/logo), and copyright protects creative works. Many products use more than one — for example, design + trademark.
The Design Office may raise an examination report with objections (for example, on novelty or the drawings), and sometimes a hearing is scheduled. Responding to these is handled as a separate service — Objection / Examination Response at ₹1,999 per objection, and Hearing Representation at ₹5,999.
Yes — ideally before any public disclosure. A design must be new and unpublished at the time of filing, so registering before you launch or showcase the product protects your novelty.
