Fees. Prices shown are discounted professional/service fees, exclusive of applicable taxes (GST). The government RTI fee (₹10 for central public authorities; state fees vary) and any additional charges for extra pages or copies (as prescribed under the RTI Rules) are payable separately. About the service. NoLegalPaisa helps citizens exercise their Right to Information. We assess your issue, identify the correct public authority and Public Information Officer (PIO), draft a clear and well-framed RTI application, file it (online or by post) and pay the prescribed fee, then track the response and explain it in plain language. Where a reply is unsatisfactory or not received in time, we help with the First Appeal and, if needed, the Second Appeal.

Who can file. Under the Right to Information Act, 2005, only citizens of India can file an RTI, and information can be sought only from a "public authority" (government departments, ministries, PSUs, local bodies and substantially government-funded bodies). RTI cannot be used against purely private companies or individuals.

Timelines. A PIO is generally required to respond within 30 days of receiving the application (within 48 hours where the information concerns the life or liberty of a person). A First Appeal can be filed within 30 days of the reply or its due date; a Second Appeal to the Information Commission within 90 days. Actual timelines depend on the authority.

No guaranteed outcome. We draft and file your application diligently, but the information provided — and whether it is provided at all — is decided by the public authority. Certain information is exempt from disclosure under Sections 8 and 9 of the Act (for example, matters affecting national security, sovereignty, personal information with no public interest, commercial confidence, cabinet papers, or information held in a fiduciary capacity), and an authority may lawfully decline or redact such information. We cannot guarantee a particular response, the disclosure of specific information, or adherence to timelines by the authority.

Your responsibility. You must provide accurate, lawful details and a genuine information requirement. RTI must not be used for purposes that are frivolous, vexatious or contrary to law. Information you share is handled confidentially and used only to deliver the service.

Independent advisory. NoLegalPaisa is a legal-tech and advisory platform operated by Kaahmuchee Solution Private Limited and is not a government body or the RTI authority. Easy Guide

Understand RTI in 2 minutes

Everything you need to know about the Right to Information — in plain language.

What is RTI?

The Right to Information Act, 2005 gives every Indian citizen the legal right to ask for information held by public authorities — and obliges them to answer. It's one of the most powerful tools for transparency and accountability in governance.

  • Demand records, decisions & status updates
  • Cut through red tape & delays
  • Hold public bodies accountable
  • Backed by law, with appeals if ignored

Who can file?

Any citizen of India can file an RTI — no reason needs to be given. Information can be sought from any "public authority".

  • Central & state government departments
  • Ministries & public sector undertakings (PSUs)
  • Municipalities & local bodies
  • Substantially government-funded bodies

How to file

An RTI is filed with the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the concerned authority, with the prescribed fee. We handle every step for you.

  • Identify the correct authority & PIO
  • Draft clear, specific questions
  • File online or by post
  • Pay the ₹10 fee & get an acknowledgement

Timelines

The law sets clear deadlines for a response.

  • Reply within 30 days of the application
  • Within 48 hours if life or liberty is involved
  • First Appeal: within 30 days of reply/due date
  • Second Appeal: within 90 days, to the Commission

Appeals

If you get no reply, an incomplete reply or an unjustified refusal, you can appeal — and we help you do it.

  • First Appeal to the First Appellate Authority (FAA)
  • Second Appeal to the Information Commission (CIC / SIC)
  • Stronger, legally-grounded arguments
  • Representation & follow-through

Frequently asked questions

Who can file an RTI?+

Any citizen of India can file an RTI. You don't need to give a reason for wanting the information. RTIs can only be filed against public authorities, not private companies or individuals.

How long does the government take to reply?+

The Public Information Officer must generally reply within 30 days of receiving your application — or within 48 hours if the information concerns someone's life or liberty.
